BNP Paribas – Investment Bank of the Year

October 7, 2022

BNP Paribas is named Investment Bank of the Year in the world by the leading financial publication The Banker at its Investment Banking Awards 2022.

Ulrik Ross, CEO BNP Paribas Group Denmark comments:

”To be named Investment Bank of the Year is a privilege. This recognition reflects years of effort and investments generating a holistic and global client experience. A tireless effort by colleagues striving to deliver the full advisory, service and product suite in good and bad times is key to our long-term client relationships – the DNA of BNP Paribas”

Specifically reflecting on the Investment Bank of the Year award, The Banker editors noted:

“BNP Paribas is a bank with momentum. It has an ambitious plan and, by adapting to challenging market conditions, it has been able to stick to it, even as some of its peers have struggled. In the past year, it has impressed across the board, but perhaps most notably in mergers and acquisitions (M&A).”

They further added: “BNP Paribas’s ambition to diversify its business model from a structured products house to delivering on flow is succeeding, thanks to this full equity offering across execution, financing, derivatives and research, and the client diversification that comes with it.”

BNP Paribas has increased its markets share within Investment Banking in the Nordic region significantly during the last couple of years including several new senior hires. Ari Mäkelä joined from Citi in September, and Michael Zeier, ex Goldman Sach and Nordea, joined the company in May.

“The regional footprint in the Nordic countries has never been stronger, reflecting BNP Paribas’ commitment to the Nordic region as a strategic growth focus”, adds Ulrik Ross.

About the award

The awards recognise the Bank’s performance over the 12 months to July 2022. The overall Investment Bank of the Year accolade is not open for direct entry. The Banker selected BNP Paribas “on the strength of their entries across our regional, product and coverage categories.”

The Banker editors explain: Award winners “are judged in turn on the quality of service, execution and problem-solving that banks have provided. As in previous years, an important consideration has been how vital a role ESG factors have played in bank activities and how banks have supported clients to achieve their sustainability goals. The extent to which banks’ innovations have benefited clients or improved market operations has also played an important part in the judges’ decisions.”

The Banker recognised BNP Paribas for the breadth and depth of its products and services across geographies and business lines, as well as the hard work and talent of its teams.
